Weed status of the Diamantina Shire as of 1st June 2005.

Diamantina Shire is very clean of declared pest species.  One infestation of parkinsonia is the only declared weed infestation.  This infestation is currently being worked on by the landholder with funding assistance from the shire and Desert Channels Queensland.  Recently another patch of only a few parkinsonia trees were discovered in an aerial survey in a remote location and these have since been killed.

The Shire lies within the region known as the Channel Country.  This area consists of a network of western Queensland Rivers which when in flood can contribute to the spread of weed seeds.

Noogoora burr is widespread throughout some parts of the channels.  The rust is present and having an effect to some degree.

The following is a list of known weeds in the shire and their classification.  For information about these classifications, click here.

Class 1 pest plants - None

Class 2 pest plants – Parkinsonia, Parthenium

Class 3 pest plants - None

Other pest plants - Noogoora Burr
