Part 1 - Overview

Barcaldine Shire is at the southern point of the Prickly acacia distribution in western Queensland. This weed is mainly found north of the Landsborough highway. Parkinsonia is also in the shire, but is mainly confined to a section of the Alice River.

The most recent invasive species in the shire is Florestina.  This is only one of two infestations of this weed in Australia and efforts to contain this species are currently underway.

Rubber vine is found in a few small patches, and is currently targeted for eradication.  There are no permanent parthenium infestations in the shire but isolated plants are regularly found along the highway.  There is also one patch of Bellyache bush that is currently being controlled. Mother of Millions is also in the shire and is found in a couple of medium sized infestations.

The following is a list of known weeds in the shire and their classification.  For information about these classifications, click here.

Class 1 pest plants - None

Class 2 pest plants – Parthenium, Prickly acacia, Parkinsonia, Mother of millions, Rubber vine, Bellyache Bush
