The Desert Uplands Build-up and Development Strategy Committee (DU Committee) is a community-based group working across the Desert Uplands bioregion. This bioregion straddles the Great Dividing Range and is split, roughly half and half, between the Lake Eyre Basin and the coastal Burdekin catchment. The DU Committee works closely with the natural resource management regional bodies that cover those areas, Desert Channels Queensland (Queensland section of the Lake Eyre Basin) and Burdekin Dry Tropics Board (Burdekin catchment). Its main role is providing leadership to coordinate community-based initiatives for the region’s development. The DU Committee sources funding, information and expertise to assist landholders in dealing with economic, environmental and social issues. In consultation with all sectors of the community it has developed strategies to improve the viability of communities and the sustainability of land use across the bioregion. See www.desertuplands.org.au for more information on this group. |
