Expanded Membership

At its William Creek meeting on 13th and 14th August, 2002, the Lake Eyre Basin Coordinating Group reached agreement to expand its membership to include the Lake Frome, Western Rivers, and Desert Rivers Regions. These regions of the Lake Eyre Basin had not, to date, been represented on the Group.

The Group resolved to have a full complement of stakeholder representatives on board as soon as practical.

Initial appointments were made of David Lord for the Lake Frome Region and Andrew Clarke for the Western Rivers Region. Andrew accepted the position on an interim basis until permanent representatives could be appointed. This has been done and Phil Gee and Colin Greenfield are now the representatives for the Western Rivers Region.

More members are yet to be finalised to achieve the broad representation the Coordinating Group is seeking.

This will be done through a process of nominations from stakeholder representative groups within the Lake Frome, Western Rivers and Desert Rivers regions. From these nominees the Coordinating Group will appoint members who it feels can best represent community stakeholders.

Although these regions haven't been formally represented on the Coordinating Group in the past, issues of concern or interest to them have been brought to the Coordinating Group by a variety of means.

Perhaps the most effective means to date has been the very active Basin-wide network. The Group continues to receive representations by interested people - both in person and through current members - and the government observers are very effective at bringing issues to the table.
